President Donald Trump has announced he is hiking duties on products brought in from Canadian sources after the territory of Ontario broadcast an anti-tariff commercial using former President Reagan.

In a Truth Social update on Saturday, the President described the commercial a "misrepresentation" and criticized Canada's leaders for not taking down it ahead of the baseball championship.

"Owing to their major falsification of the facts, and aggressive move, I am hiking the import tax on Canada by 10% on top of what they are currently paying now," he stated.

Subsequent to the President on last Thursday pulled out of trade talks with Canada, the Doug Ford said he would take down the advert.

Ontario Reaction

Ontario Leader Ford said on Friday that he would halt his province's anti-tariff advertisement campaign in the America, informing journalists that he made the decision after talks with the Prime Minister Carney "to ensure trade negotiations can restart".

He noted it would still run during the weekend, including matches for the MLB finals, which includes the Toronto team versus the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Commercial Situation

The Canadian nation is the exclusive G7 country that has not achieved a agreement with the United States since Trump started trying to charge high duties on items from primary trading partners.

The United States has earlier enforced a thirty-five percent levy on each Canada's products - though most are free under an existing free trade agreement. It has also applied sector-specific duties on Canada's items, featuring a 50 percent duty on metal products and twenty-five percent on automobiles.

In his message, sent while he was flying to Southeast Asia, the President seemed to say he was including 10 percent to these duties.

Three-quarters of Canadian exported goods are sent to the America, and the province is the location of the majority of Canadian automobile manufacturing.

Ronald Reagan Ad Details

The advertisement, which was funded by the Ontario government, references former US President Reagan, a conservative icon and symbol of conservative values, saying duties "harm every American".

The video takes excerpts from a 1987 national radio address that focused on global commerce.

The Ronald Reagan Foundation, which is charged with preserving the ex-president's legacy, had condemned the advertisement for using "carefully chosen" audio and video and said it distorted Reagan's 1987 address. It further noted the Ontario government had not requested authorization to use it.

Current Conflicts

In his update on social media on the weekend, the President stated that the advert should have been removed before.

"Their Advertisement was to be taken down AT ONCE, but they let it run yesterday during the MLB finals, aware that it was a FRAUD," he posted, while en route to Southeast Asia.

Doug Ford had before pledged to air the Ronald Reagan advert in each Republican-led region in the US.

Each of Trump and Mark Carney will be participating in the ASEAN in Malaysia, but the President told journalists traveling with him on Air Force One that he does not have any "plan" of speaking with his Canadian PM during the journey.

In his post, the President additionally accused Canada of seeking to influence an future American high court case which could end his complete import duty program.

The legal matter, to be reviewed by the highest US court next month, will decide whether the import taxes are legal.

On last Thursday, Donald Trump further lashed out, stating that the advertisement was created to "tamper" with "the most significant legal case"

Baseball Championship Connection

The advertisement is not the only way that the province – location of the Toronto Blue Jays – is using the MLB finals as a opportunity to criticize the President's tariffs.

In a video shared on Friday, Ford and California Governor Newsom humorously agreed on stakes about which club would win the series.

Both men consistently joked about duties in the clip, with the Premier vowing to deliver Gavin Newsom a can of syrup if the Los Angeles team triumph.

"The tariff might set me back a few extra bucks at the border currently, but it'll be justified," he stated.

In answer, Newsom asked Doug Ford to continue enabling American drinks to be sold in Ontario beverage outlets, and pledged to deliver "our championship-worthy wine" if the Toronto team succeed.

They concluded their exchange together declaring: "Here's to a excellent baseball championship, and a duty-free relationship between the province and the state."
