🔗 Share this article Admittedly, it's Full of Absurdity, Over-the-Top Hospitality and Self-Help Jargon. Yet I Truly Cherish Meghan's Christmas Special. No matter the season, it's perpetually hunting season for commentary on the Meghan Markle's televisual offering, With Love, Meghan. Critics, both professional and armchair, have seldom found such common ground as when gleefully ripping the program's initial installments to shreds. The general consensus seemed to be a more egregious regal scandal had never been witnessed than the notorious snack re-labeling incident. Presently, in the spirit of a holiday maverick, she has returned for another round with a "Holiday Celebration" (also known as a holiday episode). However on this occasion, it's different. The standard components audiences anticipate – psychobabble word salads, extreme hosting – persist, but set of a yuletide episode, it all clicks into place. The pieces have fallen into place; it's a ideal seasonal storm. At this stage, Meghan has become the eccentric aunt at most festive family gatherings – providing random tips, and supplying the periodic peculiar declaration. ("I love spinach!" … "A tradition has to have a beginning." … "A tree is part of my memory and love of the holiday season.") She's a bit of a character, but her company is customary and unexpectedly soothing. And she seems pleased; she's inflicting a bit of damage. She understands her all subtle gestures, syllable and look will be analyzed and criticised, but manages to seem relaxed and serenely untroubled. Maybe this is the first occasion in history where that old chestnut – "Don't listen, it's pure jealousy" – may well be true. The reason is, in all honesty, all aspects in Meghan's Holiday Celebration is charming. Granted, it's all awkwardly over-the-top, silliness and over the top – but doesn't that represent precisely what Yuletide is all about? And the words she speaks might be ridiculous, but the example she sets appears to be impeccably styled. Whatever she turns her beautifully manicured, diamond-adorned hand to, she pulls off with flair. Her recipes looks delicious, the holiday arrangement she crafts is breathtaking, her presents are nearly too beautiful to unwrap. Not a single thing is average or ugly – including the way she ties her kitchen garment is artful and chic. She doesn't bung a meal in the oven, it "has a moment", and she folds gift paper like an origami guru. She also seems to be thoroughly enjoying herself throughout. How could any skeptical viewer not be won over, filled with seasonal cheer and left with a powerful yearning for handmade crackers or a crudites platter where greens is organized in the shape of a Christmas ring? Meghan used to pretend for a living, obviously, but even so, after the level of examination she has faced since she became involved with Prince Harry, even a hypothetical offspring of Meryl Streep and Judi Dench would struggle to act this genuinely. Her refusal to alter or even tone down her persona, even though it being so relentlessly, globally mocked, is oddly heartening. In our unpredictable world, here is one thing we can rely on: Meghan will be like this, come what may. We will forever know our position with her. If you're still not buying her message, a reminder that will certainly come as a reassurance: you aren't required to. We don't have national service these days, and should it be reinstated, it would be improbable to include streaming With Love, Meghan: Holiday Celebration. If, on the other hand, you willingly check it out and are overcome with jealousy about her idyllic Christmas, you can take solace either. Whether you're a duchess or a data administrator, hardly any child fully understands the dedication and labor their mother puts in in December. So you can console yourself by picturing her children's faces when they reveal a handwritten message that says, 'I love you because you are brave,' from a handcrafted holiday countdown, instead of a sweet treat.
